What Is A Land Trust?
Using a variety of tools, such as conservation easements, land donations, purchases, and strategic estate planning, land trusts are private, nonprofit organizations that work to protect land that is threatened by pollution, urban sprawl, and development. There are about 1200 land trusts in the United States, some being national in scope, while most others - like the KRLT - are local grassroots organizations. There are over 40 local land trusts in Wisconsin.
